Gian Carlo Stanton begins rehab today, according to The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler (via twitter). Prior to this latest injury, Stanton was in excellent health. For the season, Stanton appeared in 80 games and tacked .228/.309/.498 with 24 homers in 328 plate appearances. Stanton even started 38 games on the field turf, his most defensive action since 2018.   • Blue Jays southpaw Tim Mayza will begin a rehab stint at Triple-A today, according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson (via twitter). Mayza has been a key figure in the Toronto bullpen for a number of years, including this season, which has seen him post a 2.88 ERA/3.94 FIP in 41 appearances spanning 34 1/3 innings. Mayza has been out of action since August 7th. The 30-year-old has held lefties at a line of .157/.218/.275 this season.
  • The Twins are cautiously optimistic Kenta Mada could return late in the season to throw from the bullpen like he did earlier for the Dodgers. Maeda is now throwing bullpens, but Baseball Ops President Derek Falvey offered no noncommittal comments on Maeda’s ability to perform late in the season, according to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News (via twitter). Maeda is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
