Speaking to The Guardian, Alan admitted he’d wondered if he was an alcoholic himself after incredibly chaotic nights out.
Discussing his divorce, Alan told the publication, “You come out and you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m lucky to have a little more control over my life now.'”
The TV star also revealed that after moving to London from Sussex, he no longer cares about sex and wants to date someone who is “close to a celebrity”.

Describing himself as “hesitant about looking for a relationship,” Alan admitted the dating game felt very alien, saying, “I mean, how do I even meet people?”
When asked what he’s looking for, he admitted, “Probably camaraderie, which makes me seem so old.” I mean, I spend all my time either alone on stage or alone in a chair interviewing people one-on-one. It’s just nice to share because I’ve had the most amazing experiences.”
The talkative man insisted he doesn’t want to date anyone who is famous, explaining: “I need someone who’s like a celebrity who knows the business and understands the long hours and knows I might be gone. “
While his ex-husband Paul is open about his recovery from alcohol addiction, Alan revealed he had “times” doubted his own drinking.
He recalled a time in Palm Springs when he was drunk and assaulted his ex and ransacked their hotel room, but when he woke up he had no recollection of either incident.
Alan also spoke of a police statement he does not remember signing at 4am outside a McDonald’s in Liverpool after his tour manager Elliot had his leg crushed by a gang.
Another time, the comedian woke up after 3am locked in a London television studio after accosting Harrison Ford, who was in the hallway on his way to the Jonathan Ross show.
Alan, however, insisted, “I know now that I’m not.” [an alcoholic] and see [alcoholism] I’ve realized firsthand that I’m still a long way from becoming one.’
