Alan Turing, a little-known genius mentioned in the ATP show Midi Libre

A spectacle that could take place in a classroom: the students greet their new mathematics teacher Alan Turing, who immediately begins with the words: “Do you know who defeated Adolf Hitler? No, it wasn’t the Allies. It’s mathematics!”

This unique character is an outstanding scientist who prevented the invasion of Britain by helping to crack the German Navy’s secret code. Turing explains how he and his team managed to decrypt Enigma, the Nazi encryption machine, creating what some call the first computer.

“It’s easier to break a code than a prejudice…”

By trying to make his words accessible to his students, especially through the Turing Test, which allows measuring artificial intelligence and its ability to think like a human, this new teacher will show that it is easier to have one Cracking secret codes as a prejudice. He passionately discusses the topics that fascinate him, such as the birth of IT, the connections between research and innovation, and the difficulty of living in a society where you are different, among others. Alan Mathison Turing was sentenced to chemical castration by the British courts in 1952 for homosexuality and committed suicide on June 7, 1954.

Yann Métivier interprets with humor and generosity this scientist of the last century, whose discoveries formed the origins of computer science and influenced the world today. “By creating a show for young people around Turing,” says director Vladimir Steyaert, I want to appeal to both scientific and technical or literary classes. The figure of Turing enables a transversality of disciplines, history, mathematics, computer science, biology and even sports. I find it fascinating to share it with students and their teachers.
