Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) criticized on Wednesday (28) the socalled “homeschooling”, one of the home schooling proposals processed and ended by the Ministry of Education under the leadership of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) upwards, not forwards. He labeled the homeschooling method “racist,” saying it was invented in the United States to segregate white children from schools attended by blacks.

“The MEC was over. What was there was homeschooling. This is a racist suggestion invented in the United States because [diziam] “You see, when there are black people at school, my son doesn't go to school but studies at home. How can that be,” he asked in an interview with GloboNews.

The statement was made as Alckmin commented on the government's measures to improve education, saying that during Bolsonaro's term the MEC only focused this incentive on regulating “homeschooling”.

During the final conference of the National Education Conference (Conae) in late January, Lula attacked Bolsonaro for this method, saying he was against public education by promoting civilmilitary schools and trying to make “homeschooling” viable.

As shown by People's Gazette, Conae had several structural problems. In October, the MEC and the Presidency published the baseline document to guide discussions at the event.

The text points to several ideological problems and clearly presents opposition to “ultraconservative measures” such as homeschooling and opposition to agribusiness in the classroom.
