Alec Baldwin spoke more about the Rust shooting that killed cameraman Galina Hutchins. During a moderated chat at the Boulder International Film Festival, Baldwin made a lengthy statement about the many lawsuits and how people go after “litigants with deep pockets.”

“We are faced with a situation where specific people are not as interested in finding out what really happened,” Baldwin said.

“What you have is a certain group of litigants on either side, what is their position, well, people who probably seem negligent have enough money. And people who have money are not being careless, but we will not let that stop us from doing what we need to do in terms of litigation,” he added. “Why sue people if you are not going to get money? That’s what you do.”

Baldwin also took the opportunity to further explain why he did not check the gun himself before filming the scene, stating that he instructed gunsmiths on set to make sure the gun was safe to use.

“When someone whose job it is to keep a gun safe passes on to another whose job it was to be a secondary layer of protection for security and they pass it on and you claim that the gun is safe – that’s how I lived my whole life. my life,” he said. “I relied on security experts who said the gun was safe and handed it over to me. Never had a problem.”

He then moved on to talk about Hutchins and her work as a cinematographer, as well as future security protocols, such as the complete phasing out of weapons on set in favor of CGI.

“I really hope when the facts become known. We won’t be held criminally responsible, but it changed my life, and I don’t mean in the usual sense that I was involved in something or someone left. I mean, I was involved in a situation where someone was killed. It only changed my life in terms of the role of guns in movies and TV,” Baldwin said.

Those involved in the investigation into Hutchins’ death continue to search for an answer to the question of how live ammunition ended up on the set in the first place. Last month, the Hutchins family filed a lawsuit against Baldwin and “others responsible for safety on set” for alleged “reckless behavior” that led to her death.
