Alex Zane confirms his stormy marriage to artist Nettie Wakefield is over

After courting famous and beautiful women including The Voice host Emma Willis, Girls Aloud’s late singer Sarah Harding and actress Sadie Frost, TV host Alex Zane finally settled down with trendy artist Nettie Wakefield last summer.

However, I understand the couple have already split, barely five months after celebrating their wedding in London.

“Late last year we decided to separate,” confirms Zane, 43, who proposed to Nettie, 35, in 2018 after a “whirlwind, year-long romance.”

He explains: “We are leaving each other in the best possible way for two people who have shared incredible experiences, filled with love and laughter and as many happy memories as two people can make during this time.

“We remain best friends even though we’ve decided to go our separate ways. Our friends and family have been very supportive during this time and we appreciate all the help we have received.’

The Yorkshire man added: “Of course, leaving a relationship is never easy, but we move forward knowing we can count on each other.

“It is as amicable a separation as can be and of course we will continue to raise our Whippet Simon together.”

I’ve heard Nettie, who previously dated Poldark heartthrob Aidan Turner and was linked to Twilight star Robert Pattinson, is being comforted by male model Owen McGinnity, who had his arm around her at a party two months after their party pictured was wedding party.

Nettie, whose artwork hangs at the capital’s Groucho Club and Maddox Gallery, had tied the knot with Zane during the pandemic, but they’ve been forced to limit the number of their wedding guests, as well as the large one, due to Covid restrictions Celebration last August.

Zane previously said the celebration, which took place in July, was the wedding they “always planned” but couldn’t go through due to restrictions during the pandemic.

The TV star’s brother officiated at the ceremony, while the wedding party enjoyed a carrot and maple cake and a speech from his mother.

Zane made his name on Channel 4 co-hosting Popworld with Alexa Chung and the Rude Tube clip show.

After proposing to Nettie, a source reportedly said: “Alex has been knocked on since he met Nettie at six.

“He has a huge crush on him and soon realized he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.”

Alex has previously been romantically linked to a number of stars including Emma Willis, Sarah Harding, Pixie Geldof and Sadie Frost.

Meanwhile, Nettie and Poldark’s Aidan split in 2017 after six months of dating, with reports claiming they were “driven apart by conflicting work schedules.”

A source said at the time: “Things were going great for a while and they were getting serious – but it just wasn’t meant to be and busy schedules were driving them apart.

“They have drifted and things have cooled, but there are no hard feelings. Aidan is incredibly busy with his career and Nettie’s art really takes off so they’ve been very busy.”

Pencil artist Nettie has collaborated with top artists such as Banksy and Damian Hirst.

Her art was also auctioned alongside works by Tracey Emin, the Chapman brothers and Jonathan Yeo.

Her main work is reverse portraits, in which she approaches strangers at subway stations to get photos of their hair for drawings.

Nettie, who grew up in Barnes, South West London, has been exhibiting her work in London since completing her Masters in 2013.
