Alexander Ovechkin: A Historic Night in Ottawa?

Thanks to Alexander Ovechkin, a new page of history could be written at the Canadian Tire Center Thursday night during the game between the Ottawa Senators and the Washington Capitals.

Ovechkin’s next goal will be his 801st, equalizing Gordie Howe’s second in Bettman League history. “Mister Hockey” had managed the feat in 1767 career games.

Ovechkin, for his part, was able to beat Howe in his 1,309. Join game in the racetrack and surpass it. Should that happen against the Senators, the Ottawa Sun daily reported that the Capitals had received league clearance to come off the bench and congratulate the forward.

The Russian hasn’t scored in his last three games. Gordie Howe’s sons, Marc and Marty, attended the Capitals’ last game but are unable to attend the Ottawa game due to family reasons.
