Rep. Ocasio-Cortez questions witnesses about standards of impeachment
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez questioned witnesses about the reasons for impeachment, citing former President Donald Trump and former President Bill Clinton.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. said Sunday that President Joe Biden should do more to advance his own domestic agenda instead of relying on attacks against former President Donald Trump as both men seek a second term.
“I think we can certainly do more to advance our vision,” Ocasio-Cortez said on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” adding that Biden and Democrats should talk more about health care, student loan debt and abortion rights.
Ocasio-Cortez, a leading progressive voice in the Democratic Party, also said Trump has “extraordinary vulnerabilities” in his re-election campaign, including criminal charges, major lawsuits and a lack of support from moderate voters.
With Biden looking to build a broad coalition in 2024, Ocasio-Cortez also did not say Sunday whether Biden has reached out to her directly about his re-election bid.
“We have been in contact with the Biden administration during my administration and also during his administration,” she said.
On the foreign policy front, the New York Democrat called on the United States to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, saying young Americans were “appalled by the violence and the indiscriminate loss of life.”
Her comments come as talks intensified on Sunday over a possible deal under which Israel would suspend military operations against Hamas for two months in return for the release of more than 100 remaining hostages.
