Algeria takes part in the Italy Africa summit "Reliable partner" in Energy Security

Algiers, January 29 (EFE). – Algeria, represented by its diplomatic chief Ahmed Attaf, will present its economic projects in the Sahelo-Saharan and Euro-Mediterranean regions at the Italy-Africa Summit taking place in Rome today and will fulfill its role as a “reliable partner” as the third largest gas supplier in Europe and the largest natural gas exporter on the African continent.

Algiers will discuss “a range of issues that pose common challenges to both Africa and Europe, such as climate change, food security and energy security,” the Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Algeria's participation is intended to “underline the need to place the aspirations of African countries at the heart of the concerns of the African-Italian partnership,” he added.

In addition, Algeria will present concrete projects that support economic and social development in the Sahelo-Saharan and Euro-Mediterranean regions, while the Algerian Minister is expected to intervene in the session on energy security to highlight the position of his country and its interests as “reliable partner who contributes effectively to overcoming the challenges and problems raised in this context.”

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni today brings together 22 African heads of state and government, along with the leaders of the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU) and key international organizations to discuss cooperation and migration flows. In addition, the new edition of the “ Mattei Plan for Africa”, which will include an investment and partnership program primarily in the energy sector.

“Italy is a candidate to become a bridge between Africa and the rest of Europe,” Meloni said at the last Council of Ministers, explaining that the “Mattei Plan” would be based on six pillars: education/training, health, water and sanitation , agriculture and energy and infrastructure. EFE
