Lima Alliance lost the chance of a three-time championship after losing to Universitario in the 2023 Liga 1 final. The likeable team led by Mauricio Larriera at the time left a negative football image in both crucial duels. This led to the dismissal of the Uruguayan coach on November 10, even though he still had an ongoing contract and had been supported before the final.
