Alianza Lima are set to make their Copa Libertadores debut in less than a week after the group stage draw that decided the fate of familiars Sporting Cristal and Melgar. As is well known, the Victorian team plays in a team with two Brazilian rivals and one Paraguayan: Atlético Mineiro, Athletico Paranaense and Libertad. The first meeting of Guillermo Salas’ team will be at home and against the Paraná State team at the home of Alejandro Villanueva. However, the original timing of the duel could be changed.
After Conmebol published the games with the confirmed times and days, it was announced that the blue and whites will play Paranaense on Tuesday April 4 at 17:00 CET, an unusual time for a duel of this magnitude.
After that, Alianza Lima sent a letter to Conmebol asking for the game to be played at night and for the new light towers to be used. Journalist Carlos Benavente was the one who reported on this decision, pointing out that the blue and white are expected to play from 19:00 CET.
“In Alianza they will ask Conmebol to change the schedule for their first cup game anyway, arguing that at 17:00 people are still working. In Matute, they are all the more confident that the request will be accepted because of the great effort they have made to relight their stadium,” reported journalist Carlos Benavente.
