It’s been almost six years since American McGee said he wanted to make a third game in the Alice series and more than four years since he shared information about the game called Alice: Asylum, so some of you might have been hoping to see something significant soon. Well, I have important news, but it’s not good news.
McGee has shared some disappointing news on his Patreon, as his latest post reveals that Electronic Arts has decided not to fund the production of Alice: Asylum. The publishing giant doesn’t want to sell her the license either, meaning plans for a third Alice game are falling through the cracks. To quote McGee:
“We’ve exhausted all options to create a new Alice game. With these answers from EA, there is no other way to move forward with the project. As such, we will be hibernating this Patreon page and associated pre-production activities. The content remains, but we will no longer present options to fund the Alice: Asylum effort through this (or any other) platform.
It’s obviously a blow to him and the team, which is probably one of the reasons why he takes this opportunity to announce that he’s at least taking a long hiatus from the gaming industry – even giving the impression of retirement. Although EA has decided to make a third Alice game, McGee says he has no desire to be involved. An interesting statement as it would be very surprising if EA didn’t make a new Alice game when/when the TV series aired.
