Both dressed in pink, Élyse Marquis and her daughter enjoyed a special day together. “We love the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth,” says Élyse at the beginning. “Since Alice was very small, we have come to visit her once a year.
We are on vacation in our own city. And because Alice voiced a Barbie doll in the film, it was a good fit this year!”

Alice is now 19 years old and has been working as a voice actress since she was seven. “I was really happy about the dubbing of the Barbie movie,” continues Alice, “because I couldn’t wait to see it. I didn’t have to see it in the theater because I saw it while working!”

Alice is also very satisfied with the feature film. “I think it has a very nice feminist message.” Élyse supports her daughter’s opinion: “I remember that in my time the word “feminist” was perceived as derogatory. I hope we are all feminists today. That doesn’t mean we want to go to war, we just want equality between men and women. I think it’s great that my daughter is growing up in a much more open and feminist world.”

NO PLAN B
Despite her young age, Alice Déry has already worked on several projects. We could
See her in District 31, Les Morissette et moi
and Mary Poppins, among others. Despite her already extensive CV, Alice is currently studying musical theater at the Collège Lionel-Groulx. “I have loved singing and dancing since I was little. This training combines all of my passions.”

It’s undeniable that Alice wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps, even if she was initially hesitant about her daughter’s career choice. “It’s a difficult task,” explains Élyse. It is very unsafe. If it works, it’s the best job in the world. Despite everything, there are some excellent actors who we will never see or who do not have access to auditions. It takes talent, work and also luck to be able to make a living from this job. However, if you have a passion as consuming as my daughter’s, then the work is worth the effort.”

After seeing The Sound of Music at the age of five, Alice knew what she wanted to do in life. “At the end of the show I cried because I saw children on stage. I thought it was unfair! I wanted to be on stage too!” So his decision was made: his future should be in the arts and entertainment industry and nothing else! “I often told her that she should have a plan B,” explains Élyse. When my daughter asked me if I ever had a Plan B, I realized I never had one. His father, who is a musician (Marc Déry), didn’t have one either. I see how passionate she is about this job, so I’m not worried, I know everything will be fine for her.”

WHEN YOUR DAUGHTER LEAVES THE NEST
Since Alice recently left the family nest to continue her studies at Sainte-Thérèse, Élyse Marquis and her daughter will host the documentary series “When the Children Leave the Nest”, presented on Tou.tv. “When children leave the family home, 35% of parents develop symptoms of depression,” explains Élyse. We wanted to address the issue since Alice has moved. Don’t worry: I’m not depressed at the moment! If I fall into depression, the public will definitely experience it with me! (laughs)”

The documentary series When the children leave the nest will be presented on Tou.tv in March 2024.
