All at Once Everywhere by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert was nominated for 11 Oscars. They are followed by Martin McDonagh’s Inisherin’s Banshee and Edward Berger’s All Quiet Front, both with nine nominations; and Elvis, by Baz Luhrrman, at eight. The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg’s childhood critique, has received seven nominations.

In a year when there were no big favourites, a film as special and different as Everything at the Same Time Everywhere has managed to lead the way in its commitment to a different and insane science fiction. By the way, four of his interpreters were nominated. Michelle Yeoh competes against Cate Blanchett for Best Actress for Tár’s Conductor; Michelle Williams, who plays Spielberg’s mother in The Fabelmans; Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie (a small film that has garnered numerous awards from Riseborough’s peers in recent days) and the Spanish-Cuban Ana de Armas, the only nomination Blonde has received.
Felix Kammerer, in “All Quiet at the Front”.
Another Oscar favorite is Ke Huy Quan, who consistently wins supporting actor awards for All at Once Everywhere. He is joined by Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan in Inisherin’s Banshees; Brian Tyree Hanery for Causeway and Judd Hirsch for The Fabelmans. Brendan Fraser’s win for Best Actor for The Whale, up against Austin Butler for Elvis, also seems clear; Colin Farrell for Banshees of Inisherin; Paul Mescal in Aftersun and Bill Nighy in Living.

Argentina, 1985, directed by Santiago Mitre, is in the category for Best International Film for Argentina. The quintet is completed by the Belgian Close by Lukas Dhont; the Irish The Quiet Girl by Colm Bairéad; the Polish EO by Jerzy Skolimowski and the German All Quiet on the Front by Edward Berger, the Netflix bet that has done very well in this reading of the candidatures: it has received nine nominations without having finalists in the sections of interpretation.

On the far right of the front is repeated in the statuette for the best picture. This section is completed with nine other rivals from Los Fabelmans, Los Almas en banjo de Inisherin, Tár, Ellas Hablando, Elvis, The Triangle of Traurness, Everything at once anywhere and the surprising Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar, the sense of water, which have also gained the favor of the public. Incidentally, the winner of the Palme d’Or, Swede Ruben Östlund, achieved this candidacy with El triángulo de la tristeza and two others: for best director and best original screenplay.
Another award with a clear favorite is Best Supporting Actress: Angela Basset for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. You are also Hong Chau, for The Whale; Kerry Condon for Inisherin’s Banshees; and Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu for All at Once Everywhere.
Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.
Directing alongside Östlund Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Spielberg, McDonagh for Inisherin’s Banshee and Todd Field, director of Tár. And in adapted script, there will be a Nobel laureate, Kazuo Ishiguro, who adapted Akira Kurosawa’s classic Vivir in Living. Also in this category are Rian Johnson for Daggers in the Back: The Mystery of the Glass Onion; Edward Berger, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell, for All Quiet on the Front; Earlier Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, Christopher McQuarrie for Top Gun: Maverick (in a truly surprising decision) and Sarah Polley for They Speak. Steven Spielberg, Martin McDonagh, Ostlund, Field and husband and wife Kwan and Scheinert are nominated in the original screenplay.
Composer Diane Warren has landed her 14th Best Song nomination after receiving an honorary Oscar a few months ago. He’s having a very difficult time, like Rihanna, Lady Gaga and David Byrne, other of his rivals, because his favorite subject is Naatu Naatu from another Netflix hit, Indian RRR. Another veteran, composer John Williams, has received his 53rd Academy Awards nomination, making him the living artist with the most Oscar nominations and the oldest, being 90 years old. Guillermo del Toro is younger, who is also a favorite in the category in which he competes, Best Animated Feature Film, with his Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro. On the other hand, there will be no Spanish short story candidates if four out of 15 had passed the preselection.
The 95th edition of the Oscars will be presented at the Dolby Theater on Sunday, March 12, 2023 and will feature comedian Jimmy Kimmel for the third time. It is the first time in five years that the awards will be presented by a single master of ceremonies. The Hollywood Film Academy has experimented with the format of the gala in the face of declining audience numbers. The last solo host of 2018 was Kimmel precisely, a veteran comedian from ABC’s Late Night, the chain that’s broadcasting the awards.
