All ready for elections, say the Ecuadorian electoral authorities

After two exercises, the CNE authorities confirmed that the computer systems are ready for the day, as are the members of the polling stations, who will take about six hours to be counted.

The organization will disseminate the results in real time through three channels: website, mobile application and social networks.

CNE adviser José Cabrera recommended that the public use the application because it is less likely to be congested on election day, despite the purchase of new servers for the institution’s official site.

These polls are one of the largest in the country’s history, where there are 61,000 candidates for various positions and citizens receive between seven and eight ballots depending on whether they live in urban or rural areas.

The 23 prefects and vice-prefects, 221 mayors, 864 city and 443 district councilors and 4,109 members of the municipal councils are appointed.

They will also elect the seven members of the Civic Participation and Social Control Council and answer the questions of the Lasso government’s proposed referendum, which was rejected by various sectors including Indigenous people, teachers and students.

Meanwhile, the election campaign is entering its final phase as it will end on Thursday and the candidates are already preparing the files to end the period of political proselytism.
