Ms Li runs the Chinese Family Service in Montreal and the Sino-Quebec Center in Brossard, both of which are under investigation by the RCMP for allegedly being “Chinese police stations”.
The councilwoman sent a message to the city about thirty minutes before the monthly public council meeting to let them know she would not be in attendance.
Mayor Doreen Assad had asked him to withdraw from the council “while the dust settles”.
“I think it’s smart to be honest,” the mayor said. That’s also a bit of the request I made to him after the news we’ve seen surrounding the allegations from police stations, which are still pretty big.
Several community residents were disappointed by the news as they wanted to question them about the controversy.

“It’s a shame,” adds another resident. Because normally we should answer questions.
Xixi Li had answered questions from the Bureau of Investigation a few weeks ago, saying the two facilities were never police stations.
The RCMP has asked the public for help in their investigation.
