ALMA union rewards authors of ‘La Ruta’, ‘I don’t like to drive’ and ‘Saber y ganar’

The Spanish Screenwriters Association (ALMA), founded in 1989 and bringing together more than 850 screenwriters for film and television, fiction, non-fiction and programs, has been fighting for the visibility of audiovisual authors for years. For this they created the annual awards in 2019, with which the screenwriters recognize the work of the screenwriters themselves. This Thursday, in a ceremony that brought together representatives of audiovisual creation and institutions around the character of the screenwriter, he presented his awards for the best stories and programs of 2022 in an act directed and scripted by Javi Valera and Yaiza Nuevo at the Luchana Theater in Madrid.

The Best Dramatic Series award went to Roberto Martín Maiztegui, Borja Soler, Clara Botas, Silvia Herreros de Tejada and Pablo Remón for their work on La Ruta (Atresplayer Premium), which adds a new accolade after their triumph at the Feroz Awards . It competed with ¡García! by Sara Antuña and Carlos de Pando and Apagón with chapters by Fran Araújo, Raúl Arévalo, Isa Campo, Rafael Cobos, Alberto Marini and Isabel Peña.

I Don’t Like to Drive (TNT), scripted by Borja Cobeaga, Juan Cavestany, Mar Coll, Borja Glez. Santaolalla, Diana Rojo and Valentina Viso won for Best Screenplay in a Comedy Series. The production, starring Juan Diego Botto, adds a new award to their already extensive list of awards, ranging from the Almería Festival to the Feroz. In his case, it was measured against Self-Defense (by Belén Barenys, Miguel Ángel Blanca and Berta Prieto) and Better Days (by Cristóbal Garrido, Adolfo Valor, Sara Alquézar, Alba Carballal and Daniel Martín Serrano).

The extensive writing team of Amar es para siempre (Antena 3) added a new ALMA award for Best Daily Series. The screenwriters’ room is made up of Verónica Viñé, Ángel Agudo, Beatriz Duque, Bárbara Alpuente, Julia Altares, Casandra Balbás, Tirso Conde, Óscar Corredor, Mercedes Cruz, Paco de Campos, Covadonga Espeso, Pablo Fajardo, Miriam García Montero, Arianna Martín Carmassi , David Méndez, María José Mochales, David Paniagua de Paz, Olga Salvador, Aitor Santos, Macu Tejera, Ángel Turlán and Virginia Yagüe. Serve and protect and L’Alqueria Blanca have prevailed.

For the second year in a row, the best program script was Cachitos de hierro y cromo (La 2), a program written by Alejandro Alcaraz, Pablo González Batista, Nacho Gómez Hermosura, Manu March, Toño Pérez, Arantxa Soroa and Antonio Vicente. His competitors were Crims and El intermedio, who also know what it means to win these awards again and again. Among the television competitions, the veteran Saber y ganar was recognized thanks to its screenwriting team made up of Marisa Pérez, Lourdes Alegre, Aram Bonmatí, Armonía Gustems, Jesús Martínez, Marc Montañés, Marina Ortuño, Albert París, Mireia Pou, Mireia Ubero and Mireia Uribesalgo. They were ahead of Drag Race Spain and Pasapalabra.

In cinema, the winners were Isabel Peña and Rodrigo Sorogoyen for As bestas in Drama, Mariano Cohn, Andrés Duprat and Gastón Duprat for Official Competition in Comedy, and Laura Hojman for To the women of Spain. María Lejárraga in the documentary feature film.

Almost 150 professionals from 24 productions were on the list of nominees for these awards, the only ones dedicated exclusively to screenplays in Spain. In addition, the honorary award was given to the legal victory of 22 screenwriters who claimed compliance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and received a favorable sentence after years of fighting in court. The union executive wanted to recognize the commitment of these professionals who have set a solid precedent for other colleagues to assert their rights.
