With Cody Fajardo absent from that first pre-season game in Ottawa, young quarterback Caleb Evans will be in the starting XI and could use his return to the lair of Rouge et Noir on Friday night to show his former side he’s still good has football in it.
Aged just 24, Evans made his Canadian Football League debut with the Ottawa team for the last two seasons before signing with the Alouettes in February.
“It will be different at the TD Place in the visitors’ camp,” Evans said after practice on Thursday. My goal will be to just feel comfortable in the offensive system without wanting to do too much.
Evans in particular does not want to put additional pressure on his former teammates, who are fighting with Davis Alexander for the position of second quarterback at the Alouettes. The latter will also be used on Friday.
Goodbye for Bourassa
Quebec’s Louis-Philippe Bourassa, new long-shot specialist at the Montreal club, is another player set to return to Ottawa after five seasons with the Rouge et Noir.
“It’s going to be a bit emotional to see some guys again, but the ice will be broken,” said Bourassa, who counts Quebecer Adam Auclair and American kicker Richie Leone among his good friends in Ottawa.
“Caleb is always in a good mood in the dressing room, he’s really nice to be around,” Bourassa also confided to Evans. At 24, he is still young, but he is already an intermediary. I was happy to see we would still be on the same team when he signed with the Alouettes.
