Montreal Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia on Thursday signed contracts with ten players from the team, including two Quebecers.
The Alouettes have signed full-back David Dallaire from Laval University Rouge et Or. He was the second-round pick (13th overall) in 2023. The team also signed defensive defender Maxym Lavallée, who was picked in the eighth round last May.
The Montreal team also agreed with Simon Sandberg, who was the fifth pick overall in the CFL World Draft, and Rhys Byrns, who was selected in the second round (14th overall).
The team also added internationals Tysen-Otis Copeland, a defensive back who played at Université de Montréal, Alec Poirier, a linebacker from Université Laval, and American Kordell Rodgers, a defensive back from Texas State University.
The team also gave orders to five of their picks in the final draft.
The Alouettes fired Japanese running back Taku Lee and national offensive lineman Jakub Szott. National linebacker Chris Ackie also announced his retirement.
Start of the training camp on Sunday
The Alouettes training camp in Trois-Rivières starts this Sunday.
“We’re all excited to get on the field with everything we’ve experienced over the off-season,” General Manager Danny Maciocia said during LCN’s Le Québec Matin show on Thursday. It will be good to talk about football and our players.
With a new owner, a new president, a new head coach and a new quarterback, things have changed for the Alouettes.
“It’s brand new,” Maciocia continued. We still have a good core, our Canadian content, the number of Quebecers we’ve already drafted and who are part of the Alouettes 2023. But it’s going to be a very competitive camp and we need to get answers on the positions where we lost some staff in the off-season.
