The news of Vince McMahon’s willingness to return with a fully active role in WWE for either television rights negotiations or a possible sale of the Federation has apparently evoked mixed reactions within WWE itself.
According to what Fightful wrote, many would be literally shocked by the announcement. Nobody knew absolutely nothing about it: creative team, athletes, production team and staff in general all groped in the dark.
Here are the statements of a wrestler, anonymous of course:
“They didn’t know about it, but considering some people from management stayed anyway, they at least had to know. Let’s see if they tell us something on Smackdown tomorrow.”
The inevitable worry
As predictably, the internal response is a strong concern, primarily from those athletes who were brought back to WWE after Vince himself left. Here are more statements from another wrestler, always reported by Fightful:
“It’s a bit scary to find out online and it’s about Vince so I don’t believe a word he says. I hope the current management and everything else doesn’t change, but time will tell.”
Another athlete reportedly said he expects massive turbulence should Vince return to lead the creative team.
“If he returns to the creative team I’d be amazed,” one of the recently reinstated WWE wrestlers told the above source.
The opinion at management level is not very different. Also in this case, Fightful would have contacted one of the current WWE executives and his statements are essentially the same as we reported for the athletes:
“I can’t count the number of interviews I’ve read or spoken to outside of the company who said, ‘Vince liked me, but I got fired.’ Of course not: he didn’t like you, he didn’t like anyone he fired! Otherwise he wouldn’t have kicked her out during a pandemic.”
