- Soldiers from Israel’s elite Flotilla 13 unit, which specializes in counterterrorism, stormed a checkpoint overrun by Hamas on Saturday
- Body cameras worn by the soldiers show them fighting the terrorists room by room: they rescued 250 hostages and killed 60 militants
- Another 150 hostages are believed to have been returned to Gaza by Hamas and are being held as human shields
Israel Defense Forces have released dramatic footage of the moment elite troops regained control of a checkpoint overrun by Hamas and freed 250 hostages.
On Thursday evening, videos from body cameras worn by members of the elite Flotilla 13 unit were released.
The naval commando unit – the equivalent of the US Navy SEALS – specializes in counterterrorism.
During an attack on the Sufa checkpoint along the southern border with Gaza towards the Egyptian border, troops can be seen going door-to-door, driving terrorists out of the compound and encountering stiff resistance.
Shell casings fly as the troops of Flotilla 13 engage the terrorists in firefights.

The Israelis are shown throwing grenades into rooms to drive away the Hamas attackers.
The IDF said it killed 60 Hamas terrorists and captured 26 – including Muhammad Abu A’ali, the deputy commander of Hamas’s southern marine division.
A man who appeared to be naked and had blood on his back and shoulders is seen being taken out and handcuffed.
Dead bodies can be seen on the floor of a darkened room. It is not known whether they were hostages or terrorists.
In another room, a group of people can be seen standing as the troops march in – presumably hostages.
“Shayetet, Shayetet, stay in the bunker, we’re coming,” shouts one of the officers – using the Hebrew name for his unit.
Other hostages seized from a nearby music festival and from kibbutzim and villages near Gaza were returned to Gaza to serve as human shields.
Their whereabouts are unknown, but it is believed that they are held in tunnels beneath the territory and are frequently moved to prevent rescue.
