Amazing shots! Camels are terribly tormented

New images of Egypt don’t just horrify tourists. Animal rights organization Peta shows how much camels suffer for a ride or photo.

Egypt is still one of the most popular holiday destinations for Central Europeans. After all, there is the last wonder of the world, the Pyramids of Giza and parallel to it, long beaches and lots of sun. Although camels have been essential to desert people for thousands of years in this historic land, today they are exploited as a tourist attraction and brutally tortured. Animal rights organization Peta Asia recently released gruesome footage.

Camel rides through the desert

Unfortunately, tourists rarely look closely, otherwise they would likely notice the welts on the camels’ backs when they sat on the prone animal. Animals are sometimes so skinny that even the colorful blanket over their humps cannot hide the “walking skeleton”. The once “sacred” ships of the desert have become rocking horses that are simply sold to the butcher if there is not enough “work ethic”.

You knew?

Camels sway as they walk because they “walk” – that is, they move their front and back legs on the same side forward at the same time. This makes it easier for them to move around in the sand.

The video shows a live camel being tied to a truck by one leg and dragged behind. How they are at the mercy of flies with bloody faces, or how their owners beat them with sticks until they roar in pain. According to published images, three people suspected of torturing camels in the Birqash market were arrested. A “gift from God” (Ata Allah) they were once to the Bedouins, who provided milk, meat and wool, as well as being the perfect means of transport, now what? They are whipped if they are too thin to stand up.

One rightly wonders “why”. Why not at least treat your source of income well? Why not obey laws that speak clearly against animal cruelty? Why is there no end to this activity?

government wants to act

In Egypt, abuse of working animals violates constitutional law, which is why people want to exchange camels for electric cars and electric buses to transport tourists since 2020. The reason why this has not yet happened is due to a delay caused by the corona pandemic, but supposedly would like to finally get started with it. In order to contain the suffering of the many camels until then, surveillance cameras were installed to force traders to properly care for the animals.
