Deadline reported on Tuesday that Amazon's Prime Video streaming service will begin serving advertising to subscribers in the United States (excluding Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Mariana Islands) starting January 29. It will begin advertising in the UK, Germany and Canada on February 5th.

Later in 2024, ads will appear in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia.

There will be no advertising for purchased or rented content.

The company offers an ad-free subscription tier for an additional $2.99 ​​per month on top of the base subscription fee.

Company officials said the streaming service aims to have “significantly fewer advertising than linear television and other streaming TV providers.” The company further explained that advertising revenue would allow it to continue investing in content.
