For the third straight week, “Citadel,” Amazon Prime Video’s $185 million spy series starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, is missing from Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings.
The May 8-14 airing window marked the second full week of availability for the series and its third week with a chance of a spot on the charts, as the premiere took place on April 28, meaning viewership during the first three days of availability would have been credited for the series charts from April 24th to 30th. During that first window, Nielsen noted that “Citadel” just missed the Streaming Originals chart (not to be confused with the top 10 chart overall), racking up 306 million minutes of viewing and losing 10th place to John Mulaney’s “Baby J.” . Nielsen did not provide viewership figures for the series for the May 1-7 or May 8-14 periods.
It was expected that “Citadel” would take some time to make a notable appearance in the Nielsen Top 10, in part due to Amazon’s prioritization of international marketing – spin-offs of the series for India and Italy are already planned. Since Nielsen only measures in the US, viewers in other countries are not included here. Still, the fact that the series failed to chart after two and a half weeks of streaming shows that the series hasn’t resonated with American audiences that similarly priced franchises typically aspire to.
“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” landed at #1 on the entire Top 10 chart. This is the second week in a row that the Shonda Rhimes series has taken the crown with 1.9 billion minutes watched each. This week, Queen Charlotte also sparked renewed interest in Bridgerton, which serves as a prequel. “Bridgerton” returned to the original streaming rankings at number eight from May 8-14 with 413 million minutes watched.
Interestingly, this week’s #2 and #3 spots both went to films, which is less common given their shorter running times compared to films. Jennifer Lopez’s action film The Mother took second place with 1.4 billion minutes watched in its first three days of release, followed by A Man Called Otto, which hit theaters in 2022 but aired just before that date Netflix landed began. The Tom Hanks drama was watched for 1.4 billion minutes from May 8-14.
Fourth and fifth were “NCIS” (875 million minutes) and “Bluey” (706 million minutes) — two shows that regularly make the top 10 when audiences rewatch them. The same goes for “Cocomelon,” which ranked eighth with 648 million minutes.
Firefly Lane landed at number 6 with 697 million minutes watched. The drama series ended its second season on Netflix on April 27 and remained a staple of the top 10 for the following weeks.
“Ted Lasso” was ranked seventh with 670 million minutes watched during the May 8-14 window that premiered the ninth episode of Season 3 on Apple TV+.
Rounding out the bottom of the chart were the documentaries Missing: Dead or Alive? with 634 million minutes watched in the first five days on Netflix and Sweet Tooth, which hit 575 million in the second full week of Season 3’s availability on Netflix watched for minutes.
