Amber Heard finally pays Johnny Depp the $1 million in compensation she owed after their bitter legal battle

Amber Heard has finally paid Johnny Depp the $1million in compensation she owed him after their acrimonious legal battle – while the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star is promising to split the sum between five of his favorite charities.

After five years of bitter legal battles, Depp and his ex-wife finally settled their defamation lawsuits against each other in December.

Heard, who will return to the big screen later this month when she introduces her new film ‘In The Fire’ at a film festival in Italy, had claimed she was a victim of domestic violence during her 15-month marriage to Depp.

While a court in London ruled in Heard’s favour, a second case in Fairfax, Virginia, sided with Depp last year.

After Heard was ordered to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million (later reduced to $365,000) in punitive damages and Depp was ordered to pay $2 million in damages for defamation, the attorney general’s legal teams reached an agreement former couple finally.

Now, six months after one of the most bitter Hollywood divorces in modern times, TMZ reports that Depp has finally received his $1 million from Heard’s insurance company.

The outlet reports that the money will be split evenly among Depp’s five most popular charities, at $200,000 each.

The charities range from organizations helping sick children with life-threatening illnesses to providing housing for underprivileged communities.

The five charities that Depp will donate the money to are: Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

Sources have told TMZ that Depp chose the Painted Turtle and Tetiaroa Society as a tribute to two heroes in his life, respective founders Paul Newman and Marlon Brando.

He chose Make-A-Film, a charity that grants wishes to children in the acting world, because he has made a short film with them in the past.

Red Feather and Amazonia are focused on helping indigenous communities preserve their culture and heritage through shelters and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Despite the bitter argument, Depp has always insisted that he wasn’t trying to get money from his ex-wife, but rather to clear his name and reputation.

As both actors try to rebuild their lives, Depp was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival and recently mobbed by fans ahead of his performance with the Hollywood Vampires in Istanbul over the weekend.

While Depp took center stage on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for the debut of his new film Jeanne du Barry, Heard was pictured strolling with her daughter in Madrid, Spain last month.

The actress was pictured on the daytime stroll after DailyMail.com exclusively reported earlier this month that she had retired from the US – and the hubbub of Hollywood – after her ex-husband Depp fought a largely successful libel trial against her in Virginia last year.

Now she has set up camp with her daughter in a house just outside of Madrid.

It’s been unclear if Heard will try to return to Hollywood, but she will be starring in upcoming thriller In The Fire, which is set to premiere at the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Italy later this month. It is the first time she has appeared on the big screen since the defamation trial.

While Depp has made several public appearances, DailyMail.com revealed last week that the actor has absolutely no plans to ever work with movie giant Disney again.

Despite heavy speculation about the actor’s potential return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise — which could reportedly net him as much as $20 million — Depp is done with Disney because he’s still angry about the way and, according to sources close to him Wise of the studio dumped him when his ex-wife accused him of molesting him.

Despite saying at Cannes that he doesn’t feel boycotted by Hollywood, Depp is upset by the way the domestic violence allegations have unfolded and has decided it’s best for him to focus on life to focus outside of the industry.

After years of legal battles with Heard, Depp is focusing on music, art and directing art-house films.

Thousands of fans sang to Depp in Romania as the film star celebrated his 60th birthday last week and kicked off his band’s European tour in Bucharest.

He thanked Hollywood Vampires fans for the “lovely gesture,” adding that it was “the greatest happy birthday song I’ve ever heard.”
