AMD desktop APUs based on Zen4 Phoenix technology are expected to hit the market in the form of the Ryzen 8000G series – notebookcheck.biz

Some time ago we were informed about the new AGESA Combo AM5 1.0.8.0 AGESA Combo AM5 1.0.8.0 version of the AGA Combo AM5 motherboard, which adds support for Phoenix technology – which hints at an upcoming Phoenix Ryzen 7000G-based launch Desktop APUs are expected to hit the market soon. However, according to a Taiwanese motherboard manufacturer cited by HKEPC, the naming scheme could shift straight to Ryzen 8000G. Apparently AMD provided ES samples for testing purposes and the unnamed motherboard manufacturer learned that the APUs will likely be part of the Ryzen 8000G series. Four SKUs are currently known, including Ryzen 3 8300G, Ryzen 5 8500G, Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 7 8700G, with PRO versions also planned.

HKEPC reports that the Ryzen 8000G series will have two different architectures. The Ryzen 3 8300G and Ryzen 5 8500G will leverage Phoenix 2 technology and take a performance and efficiency-focused approach with the Zen4 + Zen4c. The 8300G will therefore have 4 cores (1C+3c) and 8 threads, while the 8500G will have 6 cores (2C+4c) and 12 threads. Since these are low-end models, the graphics core will only have 4 RDNA3 units.

As for the higher-end CPUs, the Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 7 8700G will use full Zen4 cores (the original Phoenix design). The 8600G has 6 cores (6C/12T) and the 8700G has 8 cores (8C/16T) as well as 8 or 12 RDNA3 CUs for the iGPU.

The release date of the Phoenix-based desktop APUs is still a mystery. AMD has not yet discussed the release schedule with manufacturers, but industry insiders expect availability in early 2024, when other Ryzen 8000 APUs like Hawk Point come to market.
