A New York jury on Tuesday found US actor Jonathan Majors guilty of assaulting British choreographer Grace Jabbari, whom he was dating at the time, during an argument in March. In the dispute, Majors, best known for his performance in the role of Kang the Conqueror, an antagonist of the Marvel Universe who would star in the next films in the series, had inflicted a broken finger on Jabbari, a cut behind the ear and various bruises. He now faces a year in prison and it is unclear whether he will continue to star in future Marvel films.
The incident that led to Monday's sentencing began when Jabbari saw a message on the major's phone from another woman that said “I wish I could kiss you now” while the two were in a car together in New York sat. She had picked up the phone and he had punched her in the face, put his hands on her neck and forcibly grabbed her hand to take it back: the lawyers reconstructed everything by presenting voice and text messages that the two exchanged over the following months had episodes that prosecutors said showed an escalation in the Majors' attempts to exert “control” over Jabbari through physical and emotional violence. Majors did not testify on his own behalf at the trial or comment on the verdict. His lawyer based his defense on the assumption that it was Jabbari who attacked the actor, angry after seeing the message.
