American GP, MotoGP live | Spaniard Álex Rins takes victory in Austin

Álex Rins has claimed victory in the MotoGP race of the Grand Prix of the Americas to be held this Sunday at Austin Circuit (USA). The third stop of the premier class of the Motorcycle World Championship leaves Bezzecchi, winner of the last race at Termas de Río Hondo, in the lead of the General after Bagnaia crashed first and surrendered the lead of the test to Honda Spanish. Four other Spaniards such as Álex Márquez, Aleix Espargaró, Jorge Martín and Joan Mir also retired from the race after their falls. Only 13 riders crossed the finish line. Marini was second and Quartararo third. Bagnaia was the fastest in both qualifying and the sprint on Saturday. It was another race where Marc Márquez was absent due to a fractured metacarpal bone in the thumb of his right hand from his accident with Miguel Oliveira at the Portuguese GP.

Thank you for participating with us in the live broadcast of a sensational motorcycle day. It was a pleasure. The competition returns from the Jerez circuit in two weeks with the dispute over the Spanish Grand Prix. Until then, you will receive a hearty solute.

Spanish motorcycling is lucky and great results are traditionally achieved at the Las Américas circuit. A triplet was signed today with wins in the three categories. Iván Ortola won the Moto3 race, Pedro Acosta the Moto2 race while Alex Rins took the premier class win.

The truth is that it was a crash-heavy elimination race with only 13 riders finishing. Strange in the sense that it was good weather and temperature. We don’t know if there was a problem on the track, but the truth is that the glitches have been constant since the start of the test.

And special mentions go to both Maverick Viñales and Miguel Oliveira. The two Aprilia drivers finished fourth and fifth.

Marco Bezzecchi couldn’t get past 6th despite retaining the lead in the MotoGP standings after Francesco Bagnaia crashed out while leading the race. The Italian pilot of the Mooney VR46 team is eleven points ahead of his compatriot.

Fabio Quartararo drove a sensational race and finished third to take his first podium of the season. The French driver hadn’t been pigeonholed since last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix when he also finished third.

Luca Marini was second and made it onto the podium for the first time in his MotoGP career. He hadn’t achieved a podium since the 2020 Catalan Grand Prix when he was a member of Moto2.

| Round 20 | Alex Rins has claimed the first victory for a Honda in MotoGP since Marc Márquez at the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the first for the LCR Honda Castrol team since one for Cal Crutchlow in 2018.

The race is over.

| Round 20 | VICTORY FOR ALEX RINS !!! He clinched his first win of the season, sixth of his career, on the same stage he clinched first in 2019.

| Round 20 | CASE OF STEFAN BRADL !!! Marc Márquez’s reserve rider also fell, as did Joan Mir a few minutes earlier. What a day for the Repsol Honda Team…

| Round 20 | Aborted: Stefan Bradl had an accident and aborted the race.

| Round 20 | Racing accident: The race has entered the last lap and the winner has been determined.

| Round 19 | What excitement is the LCR Honda Castrol Team breathing… It’s a hugely important win for them after recent times at the Golden Wing factory have not been overly satisfying.

| Round 18 | The front positions are very stable and there will be no changes until the end of the race unless there is a crash or other setback.

| Round 18 | If he wins, Alex Rins has won three of the last six MotoGP races, two of them last season with Suzuki. Today he is very close to his first victory with Honda.

| Round 17 | FACT. Alex Rins can give Honda its first victory in the MotoGP World Championship since October 2021, when Marc Márquez managed to win the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Misano Marco Simoncelli circuit.

| Round 16 | Maverick Viñales’ performance was also sensational. The Roses rider made a great comeback to finish fourth and it’s a shame as it seems he won’t be able to catch up with Fabio Quartararo who is practically certain of third place.

| Round 16 | It appears Luca Marini has finished the towel leaving Alex Rins two and a half seconds clear with just five laps to go.

| Round 15 | Marco Bezzecchi has lost two positions after seeing both Maverick Viñales and Miguel Oliveira pass him. Despite this, the Italian can retain his lead in the premier class drivers’ standings following the departure of Francesco Bagnaia.
