American U20 team: Two CH hopes in the race

USA Hockey announced Monday the identities of the 29 players who will participate in training camp to prepare for the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championships, and two players drafted by the Montreal Canadiens are in the running.

Unsurprisingly, defenseman Lane Hutson will be there. CH’s second-round pick (62nd overall) in the 2022 draft was part of the American team at the last U20 tournament and also participated in the last edition of the Senior World Championship.

Hutson plays for the Boston University Terriers in the NCAA. He has scored eight goals and provided 12 assists for 20 points in 15 games so far in the 2023-24 season.

Sainte-Flanelle’s other representative is goalkeeper Jacob Fowler, who was selected in the third round (69th overall) of the 2023 amateur auction.

The 19-year-old masked man will try to take part in a first junior world championship. He will compete with two other goaltenders during camp, Trey Augustine (Detroit Red Wings) and Sam Hillebrandt (2024 draft eligible).

In his first NCAA season with the Boston College Eagles this year, Fowler had a 12-3-1 record, a .929 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average.

The 2024 Junior World Championships will take place from December 26th to January 5th in Gothenburg, Sweden. Last year, representatives of the American team ended their tournament with a bronze medal around their necks.
