NEW YORK – Amtrak service between Albany and New York City remains suspended for Monday’s commute.
Albany-bound Empire Line trains were canceled Sunday because of what Amtrak called unforeseen track closures. It comes from a private building in Hell’s Kitchen, located above the tracks.
“I just don’t know what’s happening, and it never happens,” said Amtrak driver Nayara Lopes.
On Sunday evening, warning tape was seen wrapped around the Icon parking garage on 51st Street between 10th and 11th Avenues.
“Knowing that it’s literally about the structure and infrastructure, we can get angry about the whole system and say, ‘You need to look at the infrastructure more often,’ but it’s hard to hold any one person accountable pull. That’s just life,” said driver Maya Ali.

The Amtrak closure could impact Monday morning commutes
The Department of Buildings referred CBS New York to City Hall, which confirmed that the parking garage had “structural issues” and said, “The DOB immediately issued urgent work orders and directed the parking garage owners to assign an engineer to correct the problem.” give an order.” “
An evacuation order and a sign outside the closed parking garage indicate it had been closed since Friday, but Amtrak announced the cancellations Sunday afternoon.
“I mean, I’m glad they’re rerouting and taking care of it, but yeah, I mean, the structures are getting old,” said driver Hannah Garrison.
Due to the aftermath of the cancellations, there were long lines outside the Moynihan Train Hall on Sunday evening. Amtrak told riders it was also temporarily suspending service between the city and Croton-Harmon. Notices were issued that included eight canceled trains. Some are simply hoping that Monday’s disruptions won’t make them late for work.
