Women's physiques remain a subject of scrutiny in 2024, especially when they are famous and have to face interviews, red carpets and every moment in which they are in the public eye. Their clothing, their stylistic choices, their faces, everything about their bodies is endlessly observed and commented on. Amy Schumer (New York, 42 years old) has known exactly what that is for almost two decades, when she began her career in the world of entertainment. Now he has had to speak out again to talk about the reasons for his physical change after suffering attacks and hostile comments in public. And he explained that it was all due to a disease called Cushing's syndrome. And, as always with humor, he also called for an end to uncontrolled attacks against women.
Cushing's syndrome is also called hypercortisolism because it is effectively an excess of cortisol in the body. It is a hormonal disorder, which in Schumer's case appears to be of a temporary nature and is caused by the use of steroid injections that he has used under a doctor's prescription to control some ailments. She has already said that she suffers from endometriosis and although she wanted to keep the diagnosis of this new syndrome to herself at the time, the pressure forced her to say it.

Schumer advertises on various televisions these days. He has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, Andy Cohen and Kelly Clarkson shows, as well as Good Morning America, to promote his new work, the series Life&Beth (Life and Beth, on Disney+/Hulu), which he created, wrote and stars in stars alongside actor Michael Cera. But I wanted to use the opportunity to advocate for self-love and acceptance of one's own skin. Like any other woman or person, there are days when I feel confident and amazing and others when I feel like putting a bag over my head. But I feel strong and beautiful and very proud of the series I created, wrote, starred in and directed. Maybe, just maybe, we could focus on that for a second.”
There, on February 15, Schumer preferred not to reveal what exactly happened to him. But now, in journalist Jessica Yellin's News Not Noise newsletter – who was CNN's White House correspondent – she said it's this Cushing's syndrome. There is a good relationship between the journalist and the actress, and in fact Schumer also talked about her first pregnancy a few years ago, during which she suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum.
“Like many of you, I was appalled by the attacks on her body following her interview earlier this month,” Yellin says. “The trolling was cruel, baseless and misogynistic.” “No one should have to defend themselves for living in a body that does not fit their aesthetic tastes,” says the journalist, explaining that she decided to contact the actress if she, as on other occasions, wanted to tell what happened to him through s from his bulletin. And she decided to explain that she was suffering from this syndrome because of the injections. Symptoms include a swollen face, weight gain and fat accumulation in the shoulders, as well as headaches, back and bone pain, as well as anxiety and extreme fatigue. “The last time I told you I was pregnant. “I felt like a new person,” the actress admitted in her conversation with the journalist. “There are different types of Cushing’s. Some can be fatal and require brain surgery or removal of the adrenal glands. “While filming the series for Hulu, I also spent four hours directly in MRI machines, with my veins clogged from the amount of blood they had taken, thinking that I might not be able to see my baby grow. Son,” confessed the actress, who has an almost five-year-old child. “So finding out that I have the type of Cushing's that goes away on its own and that I'm healthy was the best news imaginable.” It's been a crazy few weeks for me and my family. Aside from worrying about my health, I also had to be in front of the camera and the internet played a role in that. But well, thank God for all that, because that's how I realized something was wrong. Just like when I realized I had given my son a name that didn't sound very good. “Nobody is better than the internet,” he jokes.
Although all of her data is obviously medical information that she doesn't have to share with the public, Schumer says she shared it to “advocate for women's health.” “The shame and criticism of our ever-changing bodies is something I have grappled with and witnessed for a long time. “I really want women to love themselves and fight tirelessly for their own health, in a system that usually doesn't believe them.” She feels “extremely privileged” by the tools available to her to improve her health is not something that many people take for granted. “I am grateful and want to use my voice to continue fighting against women,” she explains. “The only thing I would add is that this is a good example of how we never know what someone is going through. “We all struggle with something. Maybe we could be a little kinder to others and ourselves.”
