Faced with the housing crisis in Marseille, southern France, residents fed up with the tourist rental platform Airbnb have launched a Kommodo operation to steal key boxes for apartments.
Angry residents accuse the rental platform of exacerbating the housing crisis in the Phocean city, where it is difficult to find a rental apartment, not to mention soaring prices.
The commando, called “Les Marseillais du center ville,” attacked key boxes to prevent the arrival of new tenants at Airbnb residences, France Livre reported, citing RMC.
In total, the group confiscated about forty boxes and damaged about twenty, an action carried out to demand an end to the rental of furnished tourist accommodation so that Marseille residents can find accommodation.
If the command’s action is supported by a number of residents, Marseille City Hall explains that it wants to limit short-term rentals while it struggles to change current regulations.
