An engineering student who was arrested for hitting a University of Sherbrooke principal

A University of Sherbrooke student who was furious at being fined for being late for class has been arrested after assaulting a professor and a director of his faculty.

Vincent Dallaire, 26, appeared at the courthouse in Sherbrooke, Estrie on Wednesday afternoon.

He was charged with assault, molestation, carrying a gun for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. He is also at risk of breaching the rules.

The event took place on the main campus earlier in the week.

On Monday, when he was late for his course at the engineering faculty, the student would have been furious with his professor, who, as usual, had punished him.

He then became aggressive and is said to have thrown the teacher’s laptop on the ground. According to our information, there was also a scuffle between the two people.

The next day, Dallaire would have been received at the academic secretariat by Antoine Giguère, secretary of the faculty and director of student affairs.

The conversation would have quickly turned into insults directed at the member of management. The latter ordered him to leave his office, it is said.

That’s when the principal discovered that their disruptive student had a criminal record and was on probation.

He was then told, we learned, that he was being suspended and expelled from campus.

Then the affair degenerated around 9am on Wednesday morning when Dallaire allegedly managed to get into Mr Giguère’s office despite the security measures in place.

Listen to the All Know in 24 Minutes segment with Alexandre Moranville-Ouellet on QUB radio:

The student would have jumped out of it before a colleague could intervene. Then he would have been in possession of a knife.

“[Vincent Dallaire] was conditionally released. He must not go on campus or anywhere else the plaintiff may be,” Sherbrooke City Police Lieutenant Martin Tremblay said.

For its part, the University of Sherbrooke says it has provided psychological support to faculty members, but declined to comment further on the matter.

It probably wasn’t the first time Dallaire had a violent fit because he was late for class.

In 2018, while studying mechanical engineering at Laval University, the feisty student punched a bus driver for being late for his exam, the then website Genie-inc reported. specialized in finding jobs for engineers.

The Capital Transport Network (RTC) driver had prevented him from boarding the bus because his Opus card was not charged.

After a second unsuccessful attempt to convince the driver, Dallaire punched him in the face and fled.

His victim suffered a concussion.

A year later, Dallaire pleaded guilty to assault with a gun and being injured and molested. He was sentenced to 90 days in prison and 2 years probation.

In May 2021, the young man also pleaded guilty to three counts of molestation and two counts of fracture, earning him two years of probation and 200 hours of community service.
