One of the main destinations of Ukraine

The Ukrainian authorities had repeatedly promised to attack the Crimean bridge as one of their main targets.

In April, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexei Danilov stated that the Kiev armed forces were ready to launch an attack on the bridge. “If we had the opportunity, we would have done it. If there is an opportunity, we will definitely do it,” he noted.

In mid-June, prior to the delivery of the Harpoon missiles, Major General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Dmitry Marchenko announced that the Kerch Bridge would be the top military target once the weapons were delivered.

In August, the adviser to the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Mikhail Podoliak, published on his social networks that the bridge was an “illegal object” harming “the ecology” of the peninsula, which is why it had to be dismantled. “It doesn’t matter how: voluntarily or not,” he tweeted.

The Crimean bridge explosion is just “the beginning,” says Ukraine

Advisor to the head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Mikhail Podoliak, said the blast that occurred at dawn this Saturday on the Crimean bridge was just “the beginning.”

Crimea, the bridge, the beginning. Everything illegal must be destroyed, everything stolen must be returned to Ukraine, everything occupied by Russia must be expelled,” Podoliak wrote on his official Twitter account after the incident.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense also spoke about the explosion. “The Moskva missile cruiser and the Kerch Bridge, two notorious symbols of Russian power in Ukraine’s Crimea, have sunk. What next, Russians?” the agency said on social media.
