Florida police are looking for a convicted child swindler who allegedly shot several times the deputy sheriff late Tuesday night.
A badly injured unidentified Taylor County deputy has been airlifted with life-threatening injuries, according to a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.
A blue alert was issued shortly after 11:30 p.m. for the suspected shooter, who was identified as 33-year-old Gregory Ryan Miedema.
He was last seen on US 19 near Deer Run Road in Perry, about 50 miles southeast of Tallahassee.
The accident happened six miles south of Salem, according to the FHP.
Police did not provide details on what led to the shooting.

Miedema, a registered sex offender, was convicted in 2011 while serving in the U.S. military on one charge of sex with a minor and one charge of child pornography.
He was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison, followed by a two-month probation period, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, which lists state violators.
Miedema, who is listed at 5 feet 8, 165 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes, recently moved to Sarasota.
The former inmate was not under the supervision of the Florida Department of Corrections, but he was not allowed to live within 1,000 feet of a school, kindergarten, park or playground.

Police warned him not to approach the dangerous ex-soldier.
A blue alert shall be issued if a law enforcement officer is seriously injured, killed by a subject or disappears in the performance of official duties in circumstances that cause concern for the safety of the law enforcement officer.
