An important step begins for the election of the Attorney General of Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, April 4 (Prensa Latina) The nominating committee responsible for choosing the next Attorney General of Guatemala today began the first five interviews with candidates for the position.

Experts point out that this is the ideal time to ask specific questions about professional orientation, resilience, administration, strategic thinking, service orientation, teamwork, leadership and communication in the search for the ideal profile of the 15 lawyers and Notaries in dispute.

As agreed at the last meeting of this panel, candidates will have 15 minutes to present their work plan should they take the reins of the Ministry of State (MP) and 45 minutes to answer questions from Postulator members.

This Monday it will be the turn of Mynor Hernández, Henry Elía, Maynor González, Eliseo Quiñonez and Óscar Dávila, the latter at the head of the Presidential Commission against Corruption.

The commissioners decided that from today until next Wednesday they will complete this step with the division into three groups to have more time for the interrogation, a moment of the process that has been postponed due to doubts about its transparency and calls to prevent re-election as the current Attorney General Consuelo is seen as decisive.

She was the one who garnered the most objections from citizens and social organizations, who urged the populace to closely follow the Postulator’s work and called demonstrations this week to denounce the cooptation of the Porras-led MP.

Last week, the commission reviewed five people’s exculpatory evidence, but it only submitted it to the files without deciding on its content, raising further concerns and questions.

So far, the process is about 70 percent advanced since it started in late January, and the final list of six names is expected to be handed over to President Alejandro Giammattei between April 18-20, who will hold the final decision in his hands.
