An Ohio couple, both 100 years old who have been married for 79 years, die HOURS apart

An Ohio husband and wife, both 100 years old, died just hours apart after 79 years of marriage.

June and Hubert Malicote’s love story came to an end last week after nearly eight decades together, and according to their son Sam, 76, the couple “did dating together.”

Sam told Dayton Daily News that his mother became seriously ill the day after Thanksgiving and ended up being cared for at the Hospice of Hamilton in Ohio.

And seeing his wife’s decline was too much for Hubert, who soon “broke down” and was admitted to the same care center.

‘It really fell apart,’ her son Sam said.

The couple shared a room at the hospice center, where they were both unconscious for five days.

Unfortunately, Hubert died in his sleep on November 30 at around 9 p.m. And according to Sam, his cause of death was a “broken heart.”

20 hours later, around 6 p.m. on December 1st, June also died.

“They went out together,” Sam told the outlet. “I’m sad, but I shouldn’t do it. Who can expect to live such a life?

“They lived a long, happy life together, devoted to God and family.”

The couple, both raised in Kentucky, met at a church service in 1941 and married a year later when they were both 20 while Hubert was on leave from the US Navy.

“When I saw her I said she’s going to be a good one,” Hubert previously told CBS affiliate Local 12.

Sam said his parents

Sam said his parents “dated together” after a “long, happy life”.

After the war, they settled together in Hamilton, Ohio, where Hubert got a job at retail technology company Diebold Inc.

They welcomed three children over the years who gave them seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

June opted to keep mom at home, which Hubert said she was “amazing.”

“She was a great housewife,” he recalled to WLWT. ‘She made the girls’ dresses. She planted a large garden. She potted and preserved, she was a good housewife.

Back in June, after celebrating their 79th wedding anniversary, the couple sat down with Today Parents to share some secrets of their longtime love, and Hubert told the outlet they made it a point to never get into a serious one to get into a fight.

“We haven’t gone through life without problems, but we would never do anything to hurt one another,” he shared.

“If there’s controversy, you might have to step away for a few minutes. Then you come back in and change the subject or research it.’

June also told Local 12, “We haven’t had a single fight,” and Hubert added, “You never want to hurt the one you love. Put them first, above your own feelings. If you have difficulties, work them out. I would say don’t go to bed crazy.”

The 100-year-old told Today earlier this year that he couldn’t imagine life without June, adding: “It’s like the team is broken when we’re not together.”

He explained that they enjoy doing simple things together, like watching old Western movies, and revealed that they get together for dinner every night.

“We never really went out much. When the kids were younger, we loved to sit around the table and tell stories about our day,” he continued. “We had a wonderful life.”

Her daughter Jo also told the outlet that her parents are “so happy to see each other” every morning and they always “greet each other with a huge smile.”
