Remember the early months of the pandemic, when the internet was fascinated (and puzzled) by the roller coaster that Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck’s connection was? From Ana de Armas, he upgrades the Twitter account that de Armas herself blocked to Affleck, who has to awkwardly dispose of a cardboard cutout of his ex — their relationship was the subject of a publicist’s dream. Well, we can finally witness the fruits of this union in the new trailer for their erotic thriller Deep Water.
Based on a 1957 novel by detective writer Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Deep Water “takes us inside the marriage of the perfect Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (de Armas) Van Allen to discover the dangerous mind games which they play. and what happens to the people who get into them.
In the trailer, Melinda is involved in several flings with other men, while Vic watches with hidden anger. As the tension simmers, the question of who plays whom crawls throughout the clip in classic psychological thriller fashion. “The truth is, if you were married to someone else, you would be so bored, you would kill yourself,” Melinda tells Vic, sneaking up the stairs.
A real connoisseur of the genre is in the director’s chair: Adrian Lyne. Line is known for such erotic thrillers as “Fatal Attraction”, “Indecent Proposal” and “Unfaithful”. The screenplay was co-written by Zach Helm (More Than Fiction) and Sam Levinson, creator of the hit HBO teen series Euphoria.
Deep Water Stars Affleck and De Armas, Tracey Letts (Ford v Ferrari), Lil Rel Howery (Free Guy), Dash Mihawk (Ray Donovan), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story), Kristen Connolly (Evil), Jacob Elordi (Euphoria), Rachel Blanchard, Michael Brown, Jade Fernandez, Grace Jenkins, Brendan S. Miller, Devin Tyler and Jeff Pope.
Prior to the announcement that Deep Water would debut exclusively on Hulu, there were concerns about the film’s release when Disney removed it from its theatrical release schedule.
Originally slated for release in theaters on January 14, 2022, The Dirty Marriage Movie will premiere on Hulu on March 18. It’s a win for Ana de Armas fans who love to sue over the absence of their favorite star in the film.
