Andersen is back on the ice after a nearly two-month absence

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen, who has been absent since November 6th, has been given the green light to return to practice on the ice.

The Dane hasn't played in a game since the loss to the New York Rangers four days before his diagnosis. The doctors then diagnosed a deep vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolism.

“He [Frederik Andersen] Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said he has been taking anticoagulant medication since then and is working with a team of experts to get medical opinions on how best to safely return to play. Frederik has returned to off-ice activities without complications and will now begin limited on-ice conditioning. We will provide further updates as the process progresses.”

For his part, Andersen wanted to express his gratitude to the Hurricanes organization, among other things.

“I’m excited to take another step toward joining my teammates on the ice,” he said. I am grateful for the help and support I have received from my family and doctors, as well as the entire Hurricanes organization.

This season, the 34-year-old goaltender posted a 4-1-0 record, a goals-against average of 2.87 and an efficiency percentage of 0.894.
