The potentially wrong treatments, the conflicting diagnoses and now a new theory about the true cause of Andrea Purgatori’s death. According to the Corriere, in the last few hours there have been increasing hypotheses that the journalist could have been infected. While Purgatori’s family is waiting for the results of the autopsy to arrive – perhaps as early as Wednesday 26th – they have appointed a trusted doctor to assist the autopsy phases: Vincenzo Pascali, Director of the Cattolica Institute of Forensic Medicine. Even the prosecutor Giorgio Orano has chosen a doctor, Luigi Marsella from the Tor Vergata Polyclinic, to whom he should entrust the role of expert. While two doctors are under investigation – Gianfranco Gualdi and Claudio Di Biasi – the judges must determine whether there is a causal link between Purgatori’s death and “the behavior of health workers”.
From the evidence that the expert will collect, answers are expected on two aspects, namely “whether the recommendations contained in the published guidelines or, failing that, good clinical nursing practice have been followed in the present case, and whether or not there is an error of practice in the specific health practice”. The investigation is particularly complicated because Purgatori had consulted various doctors from different structures throughout the course of his illness. According to the family, “the experts, real luminaries, were divided, albeit in a sensational way, about the diagnosis of brain metastases, first formulated on April 25.” Recently, there was a dispute between experts over the results of a CT scan ». What is meant is the dispute between the doctors who read the tests for the presence of brain metastases and those who, on the other hand, only recognized the presence of extensive ischemia.
