Andrew Tate is suspected of being a human smuggler, rapist and gang criminal. He was discovered thanks to a pizza box.
That didn’t go according to plan: Two days after letting climate activist Greta Thunberg flaunt the car’s machismo on Twitter, former kickboxing pro Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania on Thursday. According to rumors, the judiciary caught the alleged human smuggler, rapist and gang criminal because he distributed a hate video against Thunberg that showed a pizza box with an inscription in Romanian.
Tate’s brother and two Romanians were also arrested after the Romanian prosecutor’s Special Organized Crime Unit, DIICOT, carried out five house searches in and around Bucharest. The four suspects are said to have been trafficking human beings in Romania as well as the US and Britain since early 2021 and forced women into prostitution.
Recruited using the loverboy method
According to a statement from DIICOT, the six victims identified so far were recruited using the so-called loverboy method. They were lured with promises of love and marriage. After that, the women and girls were detained with violence and intimidation in different apartments in Bucharest. There they were forced to have sex and appear in pornographic videos, which were later shared on social media. One of the victims was also raped twice by one of the inmates.
Britain’s Daily Mirror quoted a Tate spokesman as saying details of the arrest reports could not be given at this time. “However, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will help in any way they can.”
pizza box as a reference
According to speculation in the media and on social networks, the impediment to the arrests could have been a video of the Anglo-American influencer: in red boxers and cigar in hand, Tate commented on Thunberg after she made a chic tweet Tate ice cream had “burned” . Tate went straight to the climate activist to brag about his gas guzzlers.
In view of media reports that this pizza box provided an indication of Tate’s whereabouts, the spokeswoman for the prosecution of DIICOT said when questioned by the dpa: “These are amusing speculations.”
Thunberg, for his part, returned to Twitter and wrote on Friday: “This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes.”
twitter scandal
It all started on Tuesday after Tate posted a photo showing him fueling up a sports car. “Hi Greta Thunberg. I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the beginning. Please give me your email address so I can can send a complete list of my car collection and their huge emissions.”
The climate activist hit back by invoking a well-known stereotype about fat sports car owners. “Yes, please enlighten me. Email me at [email protected],” tweeted Thunberg.
Tate was banned from social media for misogynistic comments and hateful language. Therefore, he could not be present on Twitter for years. The ban was lifted by new Twitter boss Elon Musk. After Tate’s arrest, this move was ridiculed. One user wryly wrote that she had to retrospectively agree with Musk because “Andrew Tate’s reinstatement on Twitter was a contribution to the fight against human trafficking.”
