The first beta version of Android 14 has been released and if few new features are presented, it may be because the real ones are hidden. The 9to5Google media dug into the source code and found potential future features.
A few days ago, the first beta version of Android 14 was released on Pixel smartphones. If we count a few new features, they are pretty rare and Android 14 looks almost identical to Android 13. But the site 9to5Google has found features that Google is preparing and could announce on Android 14, particularly during its Google I/O , a conference that will take place on May 10th. However, this does not guarantee that they will all be present in the operating system, or at least not immediately. The media could even test them to get a first idea of what they could do in practice.
A personalized lock screen clock
iOS 16 had made it possible to customize the depth of your iPhone’s lock screen, Android 14 could also get started. This feature was first discovered in 2019 during the development of Android 10 before mysteriously disappearing. Right now the customization options are pretty poor: you can change the color (via Material You specifically) by choosing from a palette and its brightness.

You can also change the size, between “Dynamic”, which is the default pixel value that allows the watch to adapt to the number of notifications it receives, but also “Small”, where the size remains constant.
Screen Recorder: the ability to film a single application
Our English-speaking colleagues from 9to5Google argue that the recording of the screen of his Android smartphone could be redesigned with Android 14. Clearly, Google would offer to “record a single application instead of recording the entire screen of the phone or tablet. A change that could also apply to applications that allow you to share your screen, e.g. B. Google Meet, Discord, etc.

Something to avoid showing something undesirable. Of course, the most telling example is an incoming notification, a message that we hadn’t planned and which is shown. You can still view your screen and not an individual application.
Lock screen keyboard shortcuts
As noted by media who were able to dive into the Android 14 source code, “Today, Pixel phones offer two quick access shortcuts in the lower-left and lower-right corners of the lock screen.” One is for Google Home, the other is for Google Wallet. From now on these shortcuts could be customized like they were in the last update of Nothing Phone (1).

Redesigned style and background options
The “wallpaper and style” menu that we know from Android 13 is divided into two menus in this version: “lock screen” and “home screen”. The first includes a whole bunch of new options already mentioned. The second contains the options to change the wallpaper, change the colors, enable themed icons or resize the Pixel Launcher grid.
These two tabs use the material you design, which tends to take hold on Google’s interfaces. Sections are divided by cards and can “switch from stacks to side-by-side automatically if you’re using a larger device like a tablet or foldable device.” »
A paperweight that takes up less space
Like a recently saved screenshot, the clipboard becomes more discreet. Instead of appearing in a horizontal bar at the top, the icon appears in a small floating square on the left side of the screen, just above the keyboard if it’s open.

A quick setting to change the font size
The latest feature unearthed by 9to5Google is a new tile, a new quick setting accessed by a top-down swipe. Under the title “Font size” you can easily change the font size of the displayed text using a slider.
