Android 14: Calls finally get less intrusive – Frandroid

The next major version of Android is gradually revealing its new features for those who are currently testing the new operating system in its first beta version. And one journalist spotted a change worth talking about: the ability to disable the display of full-screen alerts to reduce them to notification bubbles.

Android 14 Calls finally get less intrusive – Frandroid

The first beta version of Android 14 has been available to owners of certain Pixel devices for a few days. This is especially true of the journalist Mishaal Rahman, a specialist in this mobile operating system, who reveals on his account TwitterVideos of support, its various finds in the new features offered.

One of them could reassure many Android smartphone users. After a fairly simple configuration, it will be possible to reduce all or only specific full screen notifications to simple notification bubbles. This applies to the alarm clock application, phone calls, WhatsApp videos, etc.

A development that should appeal to people who do not support telephone calls and for whom it is a real “stressor”, as the newspaper 20 Minuten describes in an article on the subject. When the notification actually shows up, the call comes across as a lot less intrusive.

Reduce incoming calls to a simple notification

After the ability to force applications to use a transparent navigation bar by default, which could make all applications more beautiful, Android 14 development turned again to the permissions granted to installed software and more specifically how notifications are displayed.

In a series of short demo videos posted to Twitter, journalist Mishaal Rahman demonstrates how to display a wake-up alarm or call in a notification bubble instead of full screen. Rest assured, this doesn’t mean we miss the alarm, it just presents itself more discreetly.

Mini Android 14 Feature Spotlight:

You can now control whether apps can send you full screen notifications!

To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > Manage intents in full screen mode as shown in these screenshots. pic.twitter.com/3pNPrDJ1zT

As for operation, the journalist indicates that the permission granted when installing an application to view notifications in full screen mode can be revoked quite easily and at any time in the Android 14 settings. It also tells you the way: Settings → Applications → Special access to applications → Manage full screen settings.

As a reminder, the stable version of Android 14 is expected for the end of the summer, with an estimated delivery in September 2023. For those who are not lucky enough to be able to test the new features, there is no need to wait longer until I finally get this update have.
