Google has announced several new features for Android 14 aimed at helping its users create unique wallpapers.
While Google has already announced new features for its Find My Device application, the company has also lifted the veil on the aesthetic novelties of Android 14, the next version of its operating system.
While the company already offered advanced graphical customization capabilities with Material You, the company used its Google I/O conference to unveil new personalization capabilities powered by artificial intelligence, specifically for the lock screen and wallpaper screen.
Just as Apple has offered since iOS 16, Android 14 will allow users to further modify their lock screen. Thus, it is possible for the user to change the type of watch face displayed. Users can also integrate shortcuts to their most used applications.
Wallpapers based on emojis
Another customization offered on Android 14 is emoji wallpapers. Specifically, users cannot select one image as the background image, but several emojis. Android 14 then generates a wallpaper based on these emojis, but also on the user’s chosen layout or wallpaper color
In addition, the emojis present on the wallpaper are interactive. Kind of a reminder of what Google offered back in 2010 with the wallpaper of its very first Nexus, the Nexus One.
Finally, Google will also allow users to create “cinematic wallpapers”. Based on a photo, they can create a 3D effect with visible parallax when users tilt their smartphone.
No need to wait for Android 14, these features will come to Pixel phones next month.
Generative AI at the service of unique wallpapers
Android 14 will also be able to use artificial intelligence to create original wallpapers. However, this feature will roll out later this year, sometime in the fall.
In addition, this time Google has also announced a novelty regarding its messaging application Google Messages. Now, when users type a message into the text box, they’ll be suggested rephrased replies based on a desired tone. For example, if they first typed “Are we going to eat?” A professional-toned suggestion might be, “Would you like to have lunch together?”.
