Angelina Jolie is spending quality time with her daughter Zahara in New York after the teenager dropped her father's last name

Angelina Jolie spent some quality time with her daughter Zahara, 18, at Atelier Jolie in New York's NoHo neighborhood on Thursday afternoon.

While stopping by her clothing brand's retail location, which includes a gallery that will eventually host “educational events” on topics like sustainability and art, the 48-year-old movie star wore a long black coat with white patches and oversized sunglasses.

The mother of six completed her chic outfit with a pair of black leather boots and a large shopping bag to store her essentials.

For her relaxed outing, Zahara wore a black cardigan, a North Face puffer jacket, silver hoop earrings, white sneakers with gray accents, and light wash jeans.

Zahara's latest sighting comes just a month after she seemingly gave up her father's last name when she joined a sorority at Spelman College.

In a video about the teen's acceptance into Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first historically black sorority in the Greek system, she introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie.

According to People, the student, who is passionate about social justice and advocacy, said as she spoke to the crowd, “My name is Zahara Marley Jolie.” And [I] “I landed all the way from the Golden State in the city of angels: Los Angeles, California.”

Angelina, 48, and Brad, 59, separated seven years ago, but the exes have been embroiled in a contentious custody battle for years over custody, the dramatic circumstances in which their relationship ended and their ongoing business affairs.

The notable name exclusion did not go unnoticed by various social media users. “I didn't want to say anything but I definitely noticed Zahara left Pitt out of her last name,” one viewer tweeted.

“Oh Zahara said her last name was Jolie, not Jolie-Pitt,” another posted.

“I need people to respect her as a person who just said her name out loud, ZAHARA.” MARLEY. JOLIE. No mention of the name PITT. Periodt,” wrote another.

Zahara is currently a sophomore at Spelman College, a historically Black women's college in Atlanta, Georgia.

After a controversial meeting on the set of the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” from 2005, Brad and Angelina were considered Hollywood's “It” couple during their long-term relationship.

They tied the knot during a secret ceremony in the south of France in August 2014 and welcomed three children together during their romance – Shiloh, now 17, in 2006 and twins Vivienne and Knox, now 15, in 2008.

They also adopted two others, Zahara and Pax, now 19, and Brad legally adopted the son Angelina had adopted before they got together, Maddox, now 22.

But things came to an explosive end in 2016 when the couple got into an alleged physical altercation on a private flight with their six children.

Angelina later claimed that Brad “choked” one of the children and “punched” another in the face during the horrific argument, leaving her and the children feeling like “hostages” and cowering under a blanket in fear for hours until they landed.

She also claimed he grabbed her head, slammed her against a wall and once violently shook her during the flight – causing her to injure her back and elbow.

Brad's rep initially called Angelina's account to CNN “completely untrue,” but then released an amended statement to the publication saying, “Angelina's story continues to evolve every time she tells it.”

“Brad has taken responsibility for what he did, but will not take responsibility for what he did not do.” He has been the victim of personal attacks and misrepresentations of all kinds.

“Fortunately, the various authorities she has attempted to use against him over the last six years have made their own independent decisions. “Brad will continue to respond in court, as he always has.”

Since their split, the two stars have been embroiled in one of the most high-profile legal battles in Hollywood history, over custody of their children and the winery they once owned together.

In May 2021, after years of court battles, Brad and Angelina were officially awarded joint custody of their six children – but a month later the judge's decision was overturned.

Zahara's sorority was founded back in 1908 at another HBCU, Howard University, while her chapter, Mu Pi, was founded in 1979.

Fans of Zahara's mother Angelina were in for a shock last August when the 48-year-old Maleficent star accompanied her daughter to Spelman's housewarming day.

Jolie kept a low profile in a black blouse and matching pants as she helped Zahara settle in.

Darryl Holloman, Spelman's vice president for student affairs, shared a photo on Instagram at the time of himself beaming with Angelina and a masked Zahara, and she also stopped to chat on campus with university president Dr. Helene Gayle to chat.

“Welcome to campus…Zahara,” Holloman captioned the post.

Zahara's father, Brad, didn't seem to play a role when she started at Spelman.

However, he made it clear that he was very “proud” of what his daughter had achieved so far with her education.

“I'm so proud of her,” he gushed to Vanity Fair when she started school. “She's so smart. She will thrive even more in college. It's an exciting and beautiful time to find your own path and pursue your interests. I am so proud.'
