Ankara rocked by explosion: government talks about attack

There was a serious explosion near Parliament. The Ministry of the Interior speaks of a “terrorist attack”.

An explosion occurred in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Sunday morning. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote on the Twitter (X) platform about a bomb attack at the ministry. Two “terrorists” were involved in the attack. One exploded, the other was “neutralized”. Two police officers were slightly injured in an exchange of gunfire following the explosion.

The attack took place at the entrance to the Ministry of Interior, in the center of the Turkish capital, the minister said. The center was largely isolated.

The explosion occurred in the Turkish capital’s parliamentary district, which also houses several ministries. The start of the new session in Parliament was scheduled for Sunday; President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wanted to give a speech.

The Turkish Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation. In addition, a news blackout on the issue was imposed, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported. (APA/dpa/Portal)
