Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell's family claim they can't face the reality of her situation and won't accept she would die as she battled stage four cancer last year.
On Friday's episode of “Mama June: Family Crisis,” June “Mama June” Shannon appeared frustrated while talking to her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird about her oldest child.
“She doesn’t live in reality at all. She doesn't know she's going to die,” said Efird, 24, said of her sister as Shannon explained how Cardwell kept interrupting the doctor as he told her that she wouldn't survive another five to ten years.

“She doesn’t want to face it,” Shannon, 44, added.
Shannon further revealed that she had been looking for insurance policies for Cardwell's two young children, but was unable to move forward with the process because her daughter refused to provide her identification documents.
“The cancer part wouldn't be so bad if she would just fix the things that need to be fixed, get her affairs in order and then we would all be able to just hang out and worry about it, spend time with her.” Efird told her mother.

Cardwell left behind two daughters, Kaitlyn, 11, and Kylee, 8, when she died of stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in December 2023 at the age of 29. She was diagnosed with the disease in January 2023.
“She fought hard for 10 months and died surrounded by her family,” the “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” alum said in a statement following her daughter’s death.
“We love you all and continue to pray and think for our family [during] this difficult time.”

Her famous sister Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson also released a statement to remember her older sister.
“Anna was in so much pain last night, but now as a family we all know she is now at peace,” she wrote. “I really don't know what to say as my heart is completely broken. It wasn’t easy watching my 29-year-old sister battle this terrible disease last year.”
“We will all ensure that your legacy lives on forever,” she continued with an encouraging remark. “And I promise we will always celebrate our birthday like we never left!”

Before her death, Cardwell married her boyfriend, Eldridge Toney, whom she had dated since 2017.

After Cardwell's death, Shannon was given temporary custody of Kaitlyn.
She received custody after Cardwell's former husband, Michael Cardwell, filed for custody.
Michael is the biological father of Anna's youngest daughter, Kylee.
