Annie Wersching, ’24’ Actress and Tess in ‘The Last of Us’ Video Game, Dies at 45

Annie Wersching, an actress best known for her roles in 24 and Bosch and for the voice of Tess in the 2013 video game The Last of Us, has died after a two-year battle with cancer. she was 45

Wersching’s death was confirmed by a GoFundMe campaign shared to raise financial support for the actor’s family. The campaign was divided by Alexi Hawley, Showrunner of The Rookie, Julie Plec, Showrunner of The Vampire Diaries, and Neil Druckmann, Creative Director of The Last of Us.

Plec tweeted“I became a fan of ’24’ and was lucky enough to have Annie play mom to two of the hottest vamps in town… RIP Annie, you beautiful soul.”

“We have just lost a wonderful artist and human being. My heart is broken,” Druckmann wrote.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Wersching first came to the big screen at age 24 when he appeared in a 2002 episode of Star Trek: Enterprise. Wersching appeared on a variety of shows — including Frasier, Supernatural, and Charmed — before landing recurring roles as Amelia Joffe on General Hospital and Renee Walker on 24. Wersching later appeared as a recurring character in Timeless, The Vampire Diaries, and Extant. Wersching also appears in “Runaways” and “The Rookie”.

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2020, Wersching continued to play for the next two years.

Wersching’s GoFundMe notes how much the actress adored her family. “Annie lived for her family. She loved her job and valued her friends, but Steve and the boys were her absolute lifeblood. So that Steve has time to grieve without the pressure of having to work. So he can dad Freddie, 12, Ozzie, 9, and Archie, 4, as they navigate the future without their mom and without sweet Annie.”

Wersching is survived by her husband Stephen and their three sons Eddie, Ozzie and Archie aged 12, 9 and 4.
