Another arson attack in the metropolis –

A business in the Saint-Laurent neighborhood of Montreal was the target of an arson attack on Saturday morning.

The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) received a call around 5:40 a.m. By the time police reached the store on Montée de Liesse, near the Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse, the Montreal Fire Department had already brought the fire under control.

“According to initial information, a shop window was smashed and an incendiary object thrown in,” said SPVM spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils.

The building sustained minor damage and the incident did not cause any injuries as the store was empty.

The investigation was transferred to the arson department of the SPVM. The crime scene has also been secured for investigators who will try to understand the circumstances of the event.

The SPVM made no arrests. However, investigators will check with neighboring buildings to evaluate images captured by various surveillance cameras.

Keep in mind that there have been several arson attacks in Montreal over the past few days. On Thursday, a company in Saint-Léonard was the victim of an arson attack. It was the second fire in 24 hours. On May 14, the SPVM also launched an investigation into a fire at a hairdressing salon on rue Chabanel Ouest and avenue du Parc, in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district.
