The Ottawa Sun reported Saturday that the 33-year-old artist would be teaming up with billionaires Jeffrey and Michael Kimel of Harlo Capital Group in a bid to acquire the team from the federal capital.
The reasons the Toronto native wants to be part of this adventure is his passion for hockey and his connection to the Ottawa area.
The Weeknd also has a strong social media following with more than 54 million followers on Instagram. He is also the most streamed artist on Spotify.
The four-time Grammy winner would become the third celebrity to be involved in the Ottawa Senators acquisition process, after actor Ryan Reynolds and rapper Snoop Dogg.
Senators announced in November 2022 that the franchise was officially up for sale eight months after the death of former owner Eugene Melnyk.
National Hockey League Assistant Commissioner Bill Daly estimated last month that the Ottawa team would be worth more than $800 million and could surpass $1 billion.
